From the Desk of the President of the GNY Chapter of NAPNAP

I am honored to be the President for the 2010-2011 year for the Greater New York Chapter of NAPNAP.  It is a pleasure to be working with a dedicated Board. The Board Members for this year are: Mary Koslap-Petraco, President-elect; Ritamarie John, Immediate Past President; Helene Ince, Treasurer; Nicole DeVerna, Secretary; Nicole Holumba, Legislative Chair; Molly Schulman, Community Outreach Coordinator, and JoKathleen Rodriguez, Web/Communication Chair.

We are actively seeking your input for committee membership on two very important committees. Please consider joining a committee and being an active member of the GNY Chapter of NAPNAP. Please contact Nicole Holumba nh2282@columbia.edu if you would like to be on the Legislative Committee and Molly Schulman at molly.schulman@yahoo.com to join the Community Outreach committee.

We anticipate a very active year on the Legislative committee with activities focused on NY State issues with bills in Albany impacting nurse practitioner practice and nationally with the steps to begin implementation of the health care reform legislation signed into law this year. Let your voice be heard!

In addition, thanks to the diligent work of our past president, Ritamarie John, the Community Outreach program has received a grant from Abbott to continue and further develop the programs offered at the ABC Home. Your participation on this committee will be most welcome. Please know that even if you do not join the committee, you can participate in any or all of the activities that Molly will plan for this coming year.

As you know, NAPNAP, instituted one membership dues to be paid directly to NAPNAP last year. Please renew your membership on your anniversary date and indicate your membership in the GNY Chapter on your renewal or new application (for those who are just joining). Once you complete the application, the GNY Chapter will receive information from national that your membership is current and active.

This year we are planning 5 Peer Reviews and one All Day Conference. Ritamarie John also obtained a grant from Abbott for one of the educational programs. Please plan to attend the meetings.  All dates for the meetings will be posted shortly.

Sincerely,
Donna Hallas PhD, PNP-BC, CPNP
